I’m Francine Beaton, and I’m thrilled to welcome you to my little corner of the internet, where we’ll chat about writing, romance, and the wonderful, sometimes wild, journey of self-publishing. Whether you’re a fellow writer, an avid reader, or someone who loves a good story, I’m so glad you’re here.
My writing journey began a bit later in life, and it’s been a whirlwind ever since. I first dipped my toes into the world of writing in 2016, and to my surprise, my debut novel, Eye on the Ball, was published in April 2018—when I was 55. It’s been quite the adventure, and looking back, I realise how far I’ve come.
Interestingly enough, I never really had aspirations to be an author. Sure, I enjoyed writing essays at school, but back then, creative careers like being an artist or a writer weren’t exactly encouraged. Life took me in other directions, but the love for storytelling was always there, quietly waiting for its moment to shine.
That moment came in 2016 when I decided to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) and start writing Tackling Love (although it had a completely different name then. I think I called it How to tame a Buffalo. Yeah, yeah. I know, but you have to read the story to know why I had that title in my head. 😁 It was a labour of love, and little did I know, it would open the door to a whole new chapter in my life—one filled with characters, plots, and the joy of creating stories that resonate with readers.
Since then, I’ve continued to write and publish romance novels, each one a new adventure and a learning experience.
Writing isn’t just about getting words down on paper; it’s about embracing the process—plotting, drafting, editing, and sometimes, yes, even tearing your hair out in frustration. But through it all, there’s immense joy in the journey, and that’s precisely what I hope to share with you here: the highs, the lows, and everything in between.
You’ll likely find me exploring other creative avenues when I’m not writing. I love designing book covers and creating social media posts—they’re just another way to bring my stories to life. I’m also a huge rugby fan (hence the rugby romances!), and there’s nothing quite like settling in to watch a match with a big mug of tea—or maybe a cheeky glass of red wine in the evening to unwind.
I’m also a bit of a people-watcher, whether I’m out and about or scrolling through TikTok. It’s amazing how much inspiration you can find just by observing the world around you!
